Hanjin Shipping has become the first Korean carrier to place an order of five 10,000TEU containerships. At Hotel Shilla in Seoul at 5 pm on August 24, 2006, Hanjin Shipping President & CEO Jung-won Park and Samsung Heavy Industries CEO Jing-wan Kim signed the contract for building five 10,000 TEU vessels. The five vessels ordered are scheduled for successive deployment from February of 2010 on Hanjin's trans-Pacific trade and expected to provide better customer service and rationalize the company's fleet operation.

Hanjin Shipping to Launch Busan-Indonesia Service

Hanjin Shipping will launch a new Busan-Indonesia service called KIS (Korea-Indonesia Service), replacing the existing RTA (Incheon – Busan - Indonesia) service. KIS will charter space of Korea Marine Transport to provide weekly service. The port rotation is: Busan – Hong Kong – Singapore – Jakarta – Surabaya – Hong Kong – Busan.

Hapag-Lloyd inaugurates South Africa service

Hapag-Lloyd, which has so far focused mainly on East-West services, is expanding its African network by starting a service to South Africa in mid-October.
“The southern and west regions of Africa represent an attractive market for container transport with considerable development potential. We will thus be serving all five continents for the first time in our company’s history,” commented Adolf Adrion, executive board member of Hapag-Lloyd AG, with reference to the start of a liner service linking Northern Europe with ports in South and West Africa.

Maersk Launches New European Service at YICT

On 14 August 2006, YICT welcomed a new European (AE3E) service operated by Maersk. The shipping line has deployed seven 5,000-TEU container vessels to the line-haul route, which includes a port rotation of Nanshan, Tanjung Pelepas, Suez Canal, Port Said, Damietta, Gioia Tauro, Port Said, Suez Canal, Singapore, Yantian, Nagoya, Yokohama and Shimizu. This new service calling at YICT is a direct response to an increase in demand for European routes during the peak shipping season.

Menlo Worlwide Expands In The Netherlands

New Capacity at Eersel Logistics Centre Supports Substantial Growth in Brabant Region.
Menlo Worldwide
announced a major expansion of its European multi-client logistics center in Eersel, Holland, where completion of a 100,000 square foot annex has increased total available capacity of the facility to 350,000 square feet (35,000 sq. meters).
The expansion, the third for the facility since it opened in 1997, added 30 percent more space for inventory management, fulfillment operations, warehouse, distribution and supply chain management services.  It addresses Menlo’s growing business volumes, and the strong demand for outsourced logistics services in the Brabant region of the Netherlands, which is centrally located in a strategic triangle of major European air and ocean gateways.
