Port Board says “yes” to a solar supply and license agreement with SunEdison
The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners (Port Board) authorized the Port’s executive director to enter into the Port’s first solar energy purchase agreement Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Port board meeting. Port Board President Kenneth S. Katzoff said, “This public/private partnership is an innovative approach to providing some of the Port’s energy needs and demonstrates our continuing commitment to environmentally responsible decisions.” In July 2004, the Port Board established a Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS). The RPS requires that by 2017, 20 percent of the electricity purchased for resale by the Port comes from renewable energy sources.

Ceremony Affirms Combined Effort for Trade and Environmental Leadership
Representatives of the Port of Long Beach , shipping line Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line) and container terminal operator International Transportation Service Inc. signed an agreement Monday, July 31, reaffirming their commitment to work together to further international trade and environmental stewardship.

Scania, the world’s only manufacturer of ethanol-powered commercial vehicles, is supplying the city buses for use in the BEST consortium’s field trials of ethanol as a vehicle fuel. The initial trials will take place in La Spezia, a coastal city in north-western Italy.

TNT N.V. has ordered 176 trucks fitted with Euro V engines for use in the Netherlands and the European road network. With the purchase of Euro V trucks, TNT aims to reduce the harmful effects of its fleet on people and the environment. TNT is one of the first companies in the Netherlands to opt for Euro V engines, placing it far ahead of the European environmental legislation, which will not come into effect until October 2009
