A strong welcome for the Government announcement on the new energy from waste facility has come from the Port of London Authority. Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks announced that he has granted consent to Cory Environmental to build an energy from waste facility on the side of the Thames at Belvedere in Bexley. This will be London's first river-served energy from waste facility. This is designed to process up to 585,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste, which would otherwise have gone to landfill.

Port of Savannah experiences 15.4 percent growth

- New Container Berth comes on-line and brings additional capacity
Doug J. Marchand, executive director of the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), announced at a meeting of its board of directors today the Port of Savannah handled 173,415 Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit containers (TEUs) in the month of April 2006, a 12.7 increase over the same period last year. During the first ten months of fiscal year 2006, the GPA handled 1,688,719 TEU’s, a 15.4 percent increase over the same period last year.

Chineese Port of Tianjin port will see its cargo handling capacity soar by 1.7 million TEU in early 2007 when a new terminal, the Tianjin Port Alliance International Container Terminal, is expected to start operations.

Port of Vancouver Ahead of Schedule on Extended Gates Program

The Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) and terminal operators are extending hours of operations at container terminals and off-dock facilities in the Port of Vancouver by an additional 20 per cent. The ports three container terminals and five key independent off-dock facilities will add a Tuesday evening gate in a pilot program beginning July 4, 2006. In addition to Tuesday evenings, port terminals currently operate extended gates at least one other evening each week.

ProLogis to Develop 661,000-Square-Foot Industrial Facility Near Tokyo's Narita International Airpor

 ProLogis (NYSE: PLD), a leading global provider of distribution facilities and services, announced  that it will develop a new, 661,000-square-foot (61,400-square-meter) industrial facility adjacent to Tokyo's Narita International Airport. The seven-story, multi-tenant facility, to be called ProLogis Parc Narita III, will be ProLogis' third distribution center in the strategically important Narita submarket. It will be built on a recently acquired, 12-acre parcel less than 1 kilometer from the airport's cargo entrance.
