Reviving the name of Evergreen's very first full containership, Chang Kuo-Cheng (K C Chang), Evergreen Group's Vice Group Chairman, launched the 7024 TEU Ever Spring in Kobe, Japan, on 17 May, She is due for delivery in August 2006 and is scheduled to enter service on the WAE pendulum service linking the West Coast of North America with Asia and Northern Europe.

Incident with the Crude Oil Tanker - BRIGHT ARTEMIS

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) reports that the MOL-owned crude oil tanker, Bright Artemis, was suffered the damage on her hull when she is trying to rescue the crew of a vessel "Amar". The incident led to crude oil spillage from Bright Artemis in between Sri Lanka and Sumatra Island on Monday, August 14. The outline of events is as follows:

Japan’s logistics giants team up in Strategic Alliance

Two of Japan’s largest logistics providers, NYK Group and Yamato Group have announced that they are to form a Strategic Alliance.  In a statement, the two companies explained that the move had been brought about by the globalization of logistics business for both corporate and individual customers, as well as changing competitive landscapes in sea, land and air logistics business.

Maersk Launches New European Service at YICT

On 14 August 2006, YICT welcomed a new European (AE3E) service operated by Maersk. The shipping line has deployed seven 5,000-TEU container vessels to the line-haul route, which includes a port rotation of Nanshan, Tanjung Pelepas, Suez Canal, Port Said, Damietta, Gioia Tauro, Port Said, Suez Canal, Singapore, Yantian, Nagoya, Yokohama and Shimizu. This new service calling at YICT is a direct response to an increase in demand for European routes during the peak shipping season.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line) has approved in a Board meeting held today, May 19, the merger of “K” Line's two subsidiaries, “K” Line Air Service, Ltd. and “K” Logistics Corp. effective July 1, 2006. Recently, “K” Line decided and published its newly-revised interim management plan “K” LINE Vision 2008 + starting from fiscal 2006, in which “K” Line ranked the freight forwarding/harbor transportation business as one of its strategic business fields.
