On May 19, NYK and the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) conducted a joint antiterrorism exercise based on a scenario in which NYK's 77,372 gross-ton bulk carrier Suma had been boarded by terrorists. This is the second joint exercise that NYK has conducted with the HKPF over the past year.

CMH increases shareholding in Modern Terminals Ltd

China Merchants Holdings (International) (CMHI) has announced that on July 30, 2005, its wholly-owned subsidiary PPAL agreed to acquire from Swire Pacific Ltd (Swire) 3,868 shares in Modern Terminals Ltd (MTL), representing approximately 5.03% of the issued shares in MTL, for a consideration of around HK$827.8 million.

Hong Kong: Goverment keen to support logistics industry

The Government is committed to nurturing Hong Kong's logistics industry, with more than 500 hectares of rural land in the New Territories earmarked for warehousing, Secretary for Housing, Planning & Lands Michael Suen says.
In a written reply to lawmakers in LegCo today, Mr Suen noted logistics is one of the pillars of the local economy, which accounts for 5.4% of the Gross Domestic Product and employs 198,400 people.
