1. Wincaton Brings Improved Efficiencies ans Cost Saving to Britvic

In addition to securing a new 3-year contract to manage all of Britvic's Primary transport requirements, leading European supply chain specialist, Wincanton, has also secured a 3-year extension to its existing contract, managing Britvic's National Distribution Centre at Lutterworth, Leicestershire. The two contracts will see Wincanton introducing improved supply chain efficiencies for Britvic as well as maximising stock availability.


2. World Bank To Finance Romanian Rail-Road Infrastructure Project
(News/Railways)

The Ministry of Transportation, Construction and Tourism (MTCT) wants to obtain a 180 million dollar credit from the World Bank for the financing of maintenance projects for road and rail infrastructure, according to Minister Gheorghe Dobre. The credit memorandum was signed on Thursday by MTCT and International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) representatives.


3. Wal-Mart Contract with Schneider Logistics Subsidiary Establishes Import Distribution Center in Chic

New 3.4 Million Square Foot Facility to Bring 300 New Jobs to the Area
Schneider Logistics, Inc., an international lead logistics provider and part of the Schneider National enterprise, today announced that its American Port Services subsidiary has signed a significant warehousing contract with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Under the contract, American Port Services will provide the world’s largest retailer with full operating services in their 3.4 million square feet of warehousing space, creating a new Import Distribution Center in Elwood, Ill., and bringing more than 300 new jobs to the area.

4. Westports Poised To Enhance Malaysia As A World Halal Hub

As Kuala Lumpur plays host to the inaugural World Halal Forum beginning today (Monday, 8th May 2006), and the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) beginning Wednesday, Westports Malaysia is equally enthusiastic and excited over the developments taking place in the halal industry. The stage is now set for Malaysia to become a global halal hub, using its edge over other Muslim nations in trading, logistics, Islamic banking and halal certification.


5. WestJet Announces Record First Quarter Profits for 2006
(News/Air)

 WestJet (TSX:WJA)  announced its 2006 first quarter results, returning to first quarter profitability, with net earnings of $12.9 million up from the $9.6 million net loss experienced in the same quarter of 2005. In the first three months of 2006, WestJet recorded a diluted earnings per share of 10.0 cents, compared with diluted loss per share of 8.0 cents during the first quarter of 2005.


6. Wincanton backs DfT Think! Road Safety Campaign

European supply chain leader, Wincanton, is supporting the Wincanton backs DfT Think!Road Safety Campaign (DfT) THINK! road safety campaign by displaying safety decals on a number of its vehicles.

Wincanton has fitted over 100 of its fleet with decals displaying two of the campaign’s key messages. The first decal displays the key driver tired message “Tiredness kills. Make time for a break”, and appears on almost 50 curtain sided vehicles.


7. Whirlpool and Kenco Celebrate Grand Opening of Ft. Worth Facility
(News/Logistics)

 Whirlpool and Kenco Logistic Services celebrated a Grand Opening and ribbon cutting on Tuesday, March 23. The facility, located at 1101 Everman Parkway, will be one of Whirlpool’s largest Factory Distribution Centers (FDC) in its network.

Kenco was awarded the management of the new Whirlpool FDC late last year. The role of this FDC is to receive exclusively from the manufacturing plant in Monterey, Mexico and other FDCs. This FDC will supply the Regional Distribution Centers (RDC) with product for the stores or end-user.


8. Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics wins clean seas award

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics has won the 2006 'Clean Seas Award' for its E/S Orcelle 'zero' emissions concept car carrier at a prestigious ceremony hosted by Lloyd's List in London's Banqueting Hall.

Evergreen founder and chairman Dr Chang Yung-fa presented the 'Clean Seas Award' to Lena Blomqvist, Vice President, Environment, and Carl Sommerholt, Vice President, Corporate Communications, Branding & Marketing, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics.


9. Wincanton wins the Bols tender

Three new customers for Wincaton In Hungary
 Leading European supply chain solutions provider, Wincanton, has won the tender invited for storage and handling by Bols Hungary Kft.
Nine logistic services companies submitted offers for the tender announced by Bols Hungary Kft., Hungary’s second largest spirit importer and distributor company. The three-year contract has been awarded to Wincanton in Hungary during a two-round tender process. According to the contract, Wincanton will manage handling and storage of goods up to 3000 pallet places at its warehouse base in Dunaharaszti.


10. Wärtsilä engines for RCL post-Panamax cruise ship
(News/Sea)

Wärtsilä Corporation has booked an order in February to supply environmentally-sound diesel engines to Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, for the new post-Panamax cruise ship contracted there by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCL) and to be operated by Celebrity Cruises, a subsidiary of RCL. The ship is due for delivery in autumn 2008.

11. Walon opens new centre in Corby
(News/Logistics)

Automotive logistics specialist Walon UK has opened a new £3 million state-of-the-art vehicle storage and refurbishment centre in Corby on behalf of General Motors (GM), which will process around 40,000 vehicles a year.

The new specialist 35 acre centre, which has created 100 new jobs in the area, is one of the largest and most advanced in the UK and includes seven new paint booths, workshop areas and storage capacity for up to 6,000 vehicles.


12. Wincanton Unveil WEE Machnie Launch

Leading European supply chain company, Wincanton, has today opened its new, state-of-the-art WEEE recycling plant in Billingham, near Middlesbrough. Wincanton has invested £4.5 million in the recycling plant, which is the first of its kind in the UK.


13. Who Will Win The Bid For Cargo Slovakia?!
(News/Railways)

Slovakian government's advisors pointed out two candidates to take part in the final bid for Cargo Slovakia company. It is the biggest rail freight operator privatized in Europe. Hungarian railway company MÁV is out of the bidding as it submitted the lowest offer. MÁV and Slovakian Slávia Capital (consortium Carpatian Cargo Rail) offered a total of Sk7.6 billion  (€200 million), much less than the competing bidders.
