1. Union Pacific Announces Management Appointments
(News/Railways)

Union Pacific Railroad announced several management changes in its Marketing and Sales Department.
Ed Sims has been appointed vice president-commercial strategy. In his new position, Sims will lead a cross-functional effort to refine Union Pacific’s manifest strategy, with a focus on business processes that align demand with capacity. Sims joined Union Pacific in 1983 and most recently was vice president and general manager-chemicals. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Emory and an MBA from the University of Arkansas.


2. US Lines Signs up Patrick Stevedores in Australia

Patrick Stevedores has been chosen as the terminal operator in Australia for the new US Lines (USL) operation which gets under way later this month.  Announcing the appointment today, USL’s Australasian Vice President Noel Coom says the line had every confidence in the Patrick operation.

3. UK: Silverlink franchise extended to November 2007
(News/Railways)

The Department for Transport today confirmed that Silverlink's train franchise will be extended from 15 October 2006 to 11 November 2007. There will be an investment of £97 million in services.


4. UPS Awarded Contract to Fly U.S. Mail
(News/Logistics)

UPS (NYSE:UPS) announced it had been awarded a three-year contract by the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to provide domestic air transportation of primarily First Class and Priority Mail.

5. U.S. Lines Expands Service to Encompass Australia and New Zealand
(News/Sea)

U. S. Lines Limited (USL) announced that it will expand upon its current Pacific services by introducing new fixed day independent southbound sailings directly between Los Angeles and Australia/New Zealand, new westbound services from New Zealand to Australia, and new export services from both New Zealand and Australia to Hong Kong/South China and North America.

6. UPS Named a Top Company for Diversity

UPS has been named to Black Enterprise magazine's list of "The 40 Best Companies for Diversity," which appears in the July 2006 edition.

7. U-Freight making moves in Korea
(News/Logistics)

In Korea, U-Freight has promoted Daniel Chung to President of U-Freight Korea Inc, as well as relocating the company's freight hub at Incheon International airport into a new 1,700 sq m multi-user warehouse facility. U-Freight Korea, which was originally established in 1998, has also achieved ISO9001:2000 quality accreditation for its competitive range of global and multimodal export and import freight forwarding services. These include freight storage, Customs clearance and bonded warehousing operations.


8. UPS Wins Top Business Brand Distinction

 Company Also Cited As One of 100 Best Corporate Citizens
UPS (NYSE:UPS) has been named the country's top business brand in the American Brand Excellence Awards 2006. This is the first year the company has ranked No. 1 overall in the survey. Last year, UPS was ranked highest in the category of business services.


9. Upgrading Further Enhances Container Terminal Operations in Port of Tacoma

Husky Terminal in the Port of Tacoma belongs to ITS (International Transportation Service, Inc.) which in turn is owned 100% by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line), headquartered in Tokyo, and has been providing high quality services that are being further upgraded through doubling the size of its terminal capacity and installation of new larger-sized container-handling equipment on the occasion of its transfer to Terminals 3 & 4 effective in June 2005 from “ Terminal 7D ” where Husky Terminal has had operations for more than 20 years since being establishment in 1983.

10. UPS Sets $1 Billion+ Expansion of Global Air Hub

Four years after opening the most technologically advanced air package sorting hub in the world, UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced a dramatic expansion that will increase sorting capacity over the next five years by 60 percent to 487,000 packages per hour.

Union Pacific Railroad today announced the winners of its tenth annual Chemical Transportation Safety Pinnacle Award which recognizes safety achievements of Union Pacific’s chemical and petrochemical customers.


12. UPS To Expand Sorting Capacity at Rockford, Ill., Air Hub
(News/Logistics)

UPS (NYSE:UPS) announced an expansion project at its air package hub in Rockford, Ill., that will increase sorting capacity by almost 50%.
The project was approved after close consultation with the state of Illinois and the city of Rockford. While the project will not expand the hub building at the Chicago / Rockford International Airport, the interior will be outfitted with additional sorting equipment to increase its sorting capability from 82,000 packages per hour to 121,000 packages per hour, in turn creating a need for additional workers.


13. UPS Board Sets Dividend

The Board of Directors of UPS (NYSE:UPS) today declared a regular quarterly dividend of 38-cents per share on all outstanding Class A and Class B shares. The dividend is payable May 31, 2006, to shareholders of record on May 15, 2006.

14. UPS Survey: Intra-Asia Trade Expected to Explode
(News/Logistics)

Business leaders from Asia's small-to-mid-sized enterprises say they expect growth in trade this year between Asian nations to outpace even the robust trade still growing between Asia and the West, according to a new survey from UPS. Almost 70 percent of the survey respondents say they expect growth in intra-Asia trade volume this year. That compares to about half of the respondents who project more growth this year in trade between Asia and the United States and between Asia and Europe.


15. UPS Upgrades Technology Tools to Simplify International Trade
(News/Logistics)

UPS announced enhancements to a variety of Web-based technology tools to simplify the complexities of global trade.
"Businesses of all sizes count on UPS to bridge the distance around the globe," said Dave Barnes, UPS senior vice president and CIO. "Technology is the key to helping them demystify international trade and optimize global supply chains."
