1. Geodis: 2006 half-year results

• Geodis group operating profit increased by nearly 20%, reaching €53.1 million
• Net debt was reduced by €67.5 million relative to that of 30 June 2005
The Board of Directors of Geodis held a meeting on 29 August 2006 chaired by Pierre Blayau for the closing of the financial accounts of the first half of 2006.


2. Georgia will take part in Trans Asia-Europe Railway Consortium

Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Turkey intend to create a consortium within the frameworks of the Trans Asia-Europe Railway, for construction of the Caucasian portion of the project.

3. General Dynamics NASSCO Holds Naming Ceremony for Final BP Tanker

The Alaskan Legend to be Delivered to BP on August 18
General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today held a ceremony to name the fourth and final double-hulled oil tanker it is building for BP Shipping Ltd., the Alaskan Legend. BP Shipping Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary and ship operating division of BP p.l.c. (ADR: BP).


4. Government Of Spain Places Order For One Bombardier 415 Amphibious Aircraft
(News/Air)

Bombardier Aerospace announced that the Government of Spain has placed a firm order for one Bombardier 415 amphibious aircraft. The contract is valued at approximately 30.6 million $US and includes initial spare parts provisioning, training and technical support.


5. GPA Board Approves $82.6 Million for Port Improvements
(News/Sea)

The Georgia Ports Authority’s (GPA) Board of Directors approved today an ambitious $82.6 million capital improvement plan. “We are committed to keeping one of Georgia’s strongest economic engines performing better than the competition,” said Senator Mack Mattingly, Chairman of the GPA Board of Directors. “This financial plan will increase our capacity and efficiency as well as significantly boost GPA’s economic impact throughout Georgia.”


6. Giant new container ship for E.R. Schiffahrt – fleet grows to 63 ships
(News/Sea)

Newbuilding "E.R. Toulouse" starts service
Fleet container capacity grows to 282,000 teu
A further 12 units (63,000 teu) are planned by 2008

The Hamburg based shipping company E.R. Schiffahrt has put another container ship into service today (Wednesday). The "E.R. Toulouse" is a super-post-Panamax newbuilding with a container capacity of 8,204 teu. This is the planned continuation of the newbuilding programme of the shipping line, which is part of the Nordcapital Group, Hamburg.


7. German Railways to Reach Russia
(News/Railways)

Russian Railways (RZD) and the Transport Ministry of the country sealed an understanding memorandum with German Siemens and Deutsсhe Bahn (DB) to cooperate in high-speed railway service. The experts say Siemens and DB may soon join the RZD project of high-speed railway, which is being revived.


8. Gdynia Container Terminal Celebrates Official Opening

On 17th June, Gdynia Container Terminal S.A. (GCT), a subsidiary of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), celebrated the official opening of Stage One operations at its facility in the Port of Gdynia, Poland. In commemoration of the special occasion, John Meredith, Group Managing Director of HPH and Wojciech Szczurek, Mayor of Gdynia, unveiled a plaque signifying the commencement of operations at GCT.


9. Guangzhou to build 2 logistics centers within 4 years

Two logistics centers, the Huangpu and New Airport international parks, are expected to be built in Guangzhou within the next four years, improving and extending current freight hubs.


10. General Motors honors APL Logistics
(News/Logistics)

‘Supplier of the Year’ award highlights 20-year relationship  
 APL Logistics, a worldwide leader in delivering supply chain solutions, has received the Global Supplier of the Year award from General Motors for excellence in international logistics.
The award, presented in a ceremony at the General Motors Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren, Mich., highlights a 20-year relationship between the two companies centered on inbound logistics management and ocean freight transportation.

11. GB Railfreight wins Serco Rail Operations deal
(News/Railways)

GB Railfreight, the award winning freight haulier, has signed an agreement with Serco Rail Operations to provide route conductors for its test trains and rail grinders.  GBRf will provide Serco with 150 route conductor shifts throughout the Southern and Anglia regions over the course of the one-year deal.

12. Goodyear Dunlop Tyres selects Wincanton to take care of its Central European Ligistics Needs
(News/Logistics)

Leading European supply chain solutions provider, Wincanton, has acquired a major new customer, the well-known tyre manufacturer Goodyear Dunlop Tyres. Wincanton is set to operate a newly-built central warehouse for the company in the Slovak town of Senec and manage the distribution of tyres from this warehouse throughout Slovakia, to the Czech Republic and to Hungary.


13. Go-Ahead named in top 100 UK companies for Corporate responsibility
(News/Logistics)

The Go-Ahead Group has recently been recognised for its environment and social performance in the latest Business in the Community’s ‘Corporate Responsibility Index’, published in The Sunday Times (7 May 2006). Out of the 131 countries participating in the Index, the Newcastle based public transport company was rated 54th overall – a marked improvement from its 69th placing in last year’s list.

14. GAC: New focus on India for GML
(News/Logistics)

GAC Marine Logistics (GML) has added the teeming port city of Mumbai to its growing network of sales offices, to focus on major maritime decision makers in the Indian Subcontinent. Director Chris Steibelt says that with ever more maritime companies relocating their technical and purchasing functions to India, the region is a prime market for GML's integrated 'door-to-deck' ship spares delivery services.


15. Grundfos and TNT in global strategic partnership

Grundfos, a worldwide manufacturer of pumps, has signed a three-year agreement with TNT Logistics, for it to perform a leading global role in developing and implementing efficient supply chain solutions that encompass management and integration of different network flows for Grundfos. And if needed, warehouse solutions can be added at strategic locations.
