1. Menlo Worldwide Wins Contract from Siemens Ltd. Communications

(NYSE:CNW) announced  a contract with Siemens Ltd.’s Communications Group, a global manufacturer of telecommunications and telephony products, to provide warehousing, product configuration and fulfillment services in Australia.


2. Menlo Worlwide Expands In The Netherlands

New Capacity at Eersel Logistics Centre Supports Substantial Growth in Brabant Region.
Menlo Worldwide
announced a major expansion of its European multi-client logistics center in Eersel, Holland, where completion of a 100,000 square foot annex has increased total available capacity of the facility to 350,000 square feet (35,000 sq. meters).
The expansion, the third for the facility since it opened in 1997, added 30 percent more space for inventory management, fulfillment operations, warehouse, distribution and supply chain management services.  It addresses Menlo’s growing business volumes, and the strong demand for outsourced logistics services in the Brabant region of the Netherlands, which is centrally located in a strategic triangle of major European air and ocean gateways.


3. Maersk: Namegiving of newbuilding L 203 from Odense Steel Shipyard

On Saturday 12 August 2006 Odense Steel Shipyard presented its latest newbuilding, an 11,000 TEU container vessel, for the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. Mrs Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla, accompanied by her husband, Mr Peder Uggla, honoured A.P. Moller - Maersk and the Yard by naming the newbuilding EMMA MÆRSK. The namegiving ceremony was attended by the Company’s and the Yard’s Boards of Directors as well as Mr Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller.

4. Maersk Launches New European Service at YICT

On 14 August 2006, YICT welcomed a new European (AE3E) service operated by Maersk. The shipping line has deployed seven 5,000-TEU container vessels to the line-haul route, which includes a port rotation of Nanshan, Tanjung Pelepas, Suez Canal, Port Said, Damietta, Gioia Tauro, Port Said, Suez Canal, Singapore, Yantian, Nagoya, Yokohama and Shimizu. This new service calling at YICT is a direct response to an increase in demand for European routes during the peak shipping season.

Mallory Alexander International Logistics opens new office and warehouse complex to serve 1 Trilion USD Chicago area logistics market
A new office and warehouse complex has been opened by Mallory Alexander International Logistics in Bensenville, Illinois, near Chicago O'Hare International Airport. The facility consolidates Mallory Alexander operations in the Chicago area.
A hub of commerce since the late 19th Century, Chicago and its surrounding suburbs today are a major center for international supply chains with highway, rail and air traffic worth some $1 trillion annually. The railroad and trucking industries employ 87,000 local residents whose annual compensation tops $3.5 billion, according to Chicago Metropolis 2020. Chicago's O'Hare International Airport is served by nearly a score of cargo airlines.


6. Mallory Alexander International Logistics Names Cathy Spencer General Manager, Northern Plains Comme

Cathy Spencer has been named general manager of the Northern Plains Commerce Centre (NPCC) by Mallory Alexander International Logistics. Spencer will initially oversee development of the NPCC, which is being managed by Mallory Alexander for the City of Bismarck, North Dakota.
"Cathy was instrumental in planning the NPCC for the city of Bismarck," says Paul Liddell, vice president warehousing for Mallory Alexander. "Her 'ground floor' involvement, and her extensive supply chain experience, made Cathy the ideal candidate to handle this important assignment for Mallory Alexander."


7. Maersk is running out of space in Rotterdam

In four years’ time, Maersk Line will have to look for extra terminal capacity in or outside Rotterdam. In 2010, the existing terminal of affiliated company APM on the (first) Maasvlakte will be full while the new terminal on the Second Maasvlakte will not be ready yet then.  With APM Terminals, the Port of Rotterdam Authority won its first customer for Maasvlakte 2 last week. The agreement was the result of a months-long tug of war over the Euromax terminal.

8. Maersk signs Tianjin container terminal deal

Danish shipping and oil group A.P. Moeller-Maersk has signed a contract for the development of three container terminal berths in Tianjin China.

9. Max Bahr moves forward with TNT Logistics

German do-it-yourself retailer Max Bahr has once again chosen global provider and leader in integrated supply chain solutions TNT Logistics to manage its central warehouse for home improvement products. The contract renewal to the end of 2008 confirms the close partnership between the two companies, a partnership that started more than ten years ago.

10. Maersk Logistics wins prestigious supply chain software award on the 50th anniversary of containeris

Maersk Logistics is celebrating the global recognition of its supply chain technology, Spective™, after it was named “Best Supply Chain Software Provider 2006” at a prestigious industry ceremony on 23rd March.  The award was made at the first Containerisation International awards ceremony, held in New York to mark the 50th anniversary of containerisation.


11. Mitsubishi Fuso Expands KD Export Logistics Center in Higashi Ohgishima

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation (MFTBC)  announced the expansion of its logistics center in Higashi Ohgishima, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The facility, which is an export shipping base for knockdown (KD) kits and other parts logistics activities, has been enlarged by 10,800 square meters to accommodate MFTBC's growing international business. The newly expanded facility, now encompassing 25,900 square meters, officially opened.


12. Merger of “K” Line Air Service, Ltd. and “K” Logistics Corp

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line) has approved in a Board meeting held today, May 19, the merger of “K” Line's two subsidiaries, “K” Line Air Service, Ltd. and “K” Logistics Corp. effective July 1, 2006. Recently, “K” Line decided and published its newly-revised interim management plan “K” LINE Vision 2008 + starting from fiscal 2006, in which “K” Line ranked the freight forwarding/harbor transportation business as one of its strategic business fields.

Lufthansa chief calls for dismantling of investment hurdles and impediments to growth
Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber unveiled some pleasing news for shareholders at the Lufthansa Annual General Meeting in Cologne. "We are growing profitably, we are more flexible and have set the course for the future." The Group is well positioned and ideally equipped for coming challenges. "Lufthansa has immense potential for the future, the demand for mobility is still growing," said Mayrhuber. The sold financial basis of the Group, its strong brand and highly motivated staff constitute the best prerequisites for further success.

14. Maersk Contractors Declares the Option for a Third Deepwater Development Semi-submersible

A.P. Moller - Maersk has declared the option for a third deepwater development semi-submersible at Keppel FELS limited in Singapore. The new rig is expected to be delivered in March 2010.
Similar to its sister rigs the rig will be able to operate at water depths of up to 10,000 ft and is designed for areas such as offshore West Africa, Brazil, the Gulf of Mexico and Southeast Asia.

15. Matson to Raise Fuel Surcharge by 2.75 Percent

Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (“Matson”) announced today that it is raising its fuel surcharge for its Hawaii and Guam/Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) services from 18.5 to 21.25 percent, effective June 4, 2006. The company also announced that due to the extreme volatility of the world oil market in recent months, it has decided to suspend its quarterly review process and resume adjusting its fuel surcharge based on sustained trends.
