1. Innovation Boosts Ryder to Top 100 on InformationWeek 500 List

Ryder System, Inc. announced it has been ranked in the Top 100 on the 2006 InformationWeek 500, a prestigious listing of the leading business users of information technology. Ryder's exact rank will be revealed at a gala awards ceremony held during the InformationWeek 500 Conference in Rancho Mirage, Calif., from September 10-13.

2. Incident with the Crude Oil Tanker - BRIGHT ARTEMIS

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) reports that the MOL-owned crude oil tanker, Bright Artemis, was suffered the damage on her hull when she is trying to rescue the crew of a vessel "Amar". The incident led to crude oil spillage from Bright Artemis in between Sri Lanka and Sumatra Island on Monday, August 14. The outline of events is as follows:

4. IRU: White Paper recognises the role of Road Transport

 The IRU is encouraged by important and positive developments in the review of the 2001 Transport White Paper. In particular the Commission has explicitly recognised the critical role that road transport plays within the EU economy and its success in significantly reducing vehicle emissions. The Commission has also shown pragmatism by acknowledging that a forced modal shift policy simply isn’t working.


5. Imam Khomeini port ready for transit

Official in charge of marketing and attraction of investments at Imam Khomeini port Mohammad-Ali Izadi said here Tuesday that the port is ready for transit and export of all types of goods to regional countries. Izadi made the remarks during a visit of a Kazakh trade delegation to the port city and its inspection of the port's facilities and capabilities on Tuesday.


6. Improving supply chain lead-times and cost efficiency for Abu Dhabi Polymers Co. Ltd

Maersk Logistics has been awarded a major supply chain consultancy contract by Abu Dhabi Polymers Co. Ltd (Borouge). Maersk Logistics will provide a six-month consultancy service on the best supply chain concept for marketing their products in key markets including China, Middle East and East Asia.  The project will focus on cost efficiency and shortest lead-times throughout the supply chain. 


7. IMSK - increased activities in China - another Joint Venture established

I.M. Skaugen ASA (IMSK) has entered into a new Equity Joint Venture (EJV) in China with Zhangjiagang Shenghui Chemical Machinery Co., Ltd (ZSHCM), a maker of steel vessels and structures for refinery and petrochemical production facilities. The Company is located in Zhangjiagang city, in the Jiangsu Province, about two hours northeast of Shanghai.


8. Intermarine to Reopen New Orleans Office

Intermarine, founded in New Orleans in 1990 and the city’s largest privately held ocean transportation company, will re-open its New Orleans headquarters on June 5 after a nine month displacement to its Houston office.  With more than 200 annual sailings, primarily from the Gulf Coast region, the company is the leading American owned project transport provider.  Recently the company had its first vessel call at the Port of New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina, the M/V Ocean Atlas.

10. Incat wins contract with Spanish customer

Fourth Wave Piercing Catamaran for Acciona Trasmediterránea
 Leading high speed ship builder Incat Tasmania is pleased to announce it has secured a contract to provide a new fast ferry for one of Spain's largest shipping companies, Acciona Trasmediterránea.
When delivered in August, the new 98 metre vessel (Incat hull number 062) will become the fourth Incat craft to enter service for Trasmediterránea, joining near sisters Milenium Dos (hull 058), Milenium (hull 056) and Alborán (hull 052).

11. IRU: Where is the Mid-term Review of the EU Transport White Paper?

 Brussels - The important players in the European road transport industry - motorway toll operators, infrastructure providers and road transport operators - ask the European Commission a pressing question. What has happened to the mid-term review of the EU’s 2001 Transport White Paper? The industry associations ASECAP, ERF and IRU are deeply concerned that this policy review has still not materialised.

12. Iveco: Road Sefety Campain

The Turin stage of the road show in the 2nd Road Safety Campaign 'WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME ROAD: TIRispetto (a play on words meaning 'I respect you')' will see 6 heavy commercial vehicles visit major cities in Italy in an effort to increase awareness of safe road use, starting by repositioning the image of road transporters. 13. IRU demands the availability of AdBlueŽ at the pump on an extensive geographical scale

Brussels – Following its General Assembly, the IRU adopted a Resolution1 calling on governments and oil companies to accelerate the introduction of AdBlue® at the pump on an extensive geographical scale to allow everywhere the operation of Euro IV and Euro V vehicles equipped with the cleanest technology.

14. Indianapolis Airport Authority Unveil Plans for Expansion of Carrier's Hub
(News/Air)

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), and the Indianapolis International Airport unveiled a major expansion project for the express carrier's Indianapolis Hub and a multi-year extended lease agreement that includes construction of up to 14 additional wide-body aircraft gates. Up to approximately 800 additional employees could be hired under the expansion plan, which would bring the hub's employment level to nearly 5,000 people.


15. ICE Anad CONFITARMA On Intermodal Links
(News/Logistics)

ICE (Italian Trade Commission) has instituted the feasibility study for direct intermodal links between Italy and Russia, drawn up by Consar/Confitarma on behalf of ICE, funded by the Industry Ministry. ICE director-general Ugo Calzoni pointed out that this project is part of the effort being made to make the Mediterranean the centre of world interexchange, making Italy the natural European logistics platform.
