1. Exel, DHL to Occupy New ProLogis Facilities in Canada and The Netherlands
(News/Warehousing)

ProLogis announced that it has leased almost 1 million square feet of space (91,400 square meters) in Canada and The Netherlands to subsidiaries of the Deutsche Post World Net group.
In Canada, third-party logistics services provider Exel has leased 650,000 square feet (60,400 square meters) from ProLogis for a new distribution center outside Toronto. In The Netherlands, DHL has pre-leased a 333,500-square-foot (31,000-square-meter) facility ProLogis will develop in Tilburg, approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Rotterdam.


2. easyJet gets back to business

easyJet is running its full published flight schedule today – so far without any unusual delays or cancellations. The airline expects ' normal service ' to continue and that its 800 flights will reach their destinations on time.

3. European Commission sends a reasoned opinion to 4 Member States
(News/Railways)

Greece, Italy, Portugal and Slovenia were sent a reasoned opinion for failing to notify the Commission of any transposition measures for a Directive, which opens the market for international and national rail freight services. The transposition of this directive into the national legal framework should enable more efficient and on-time international and national services by rail, which are particularly important to make rail more competitive. The Commission will fully play its role in ensuring an open internal market for rail freight services.

4. Eagle Bulk Shipping, Inc. Announces Acquisition and Charter of Three Supramax Drybulk Carriers

 Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. (Nasdaq:EGLE), a global marine transportation company specializing in the Supramax segment of the dry bulk shipping industry, today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire three Supramax drybulk carriers for $105 million.


5. EADS Board of Directors suggests working group on Sogerma

The EADS Board of Directors has reviewed the Group aeronautic activities, and in particular the situation with Sogerma, taking into account the willingness of the French government to support the aeronautic industry through appropriate means.


6. Eimskip acquires 50% share in the Lithuanian shipping line Kursiu Linija
(News/Air)


Avion Group’s subsidiary company Eimskip, is pleased to announce the acquisition of 50% equity stake in Kursiu Linija, which is the only Lithuanian short sea container shipping line providing “door to door” freight delivery services in the Baltic States, Poland, Russia, United Kingdom and Northern Europe. The purchase price, which is undisclosed, will be financed by Eimskip’s equity.


7. East Star receives its first Airbus A319
(News/Air)

The first Airbus A319 leased by East Star Airlines, a new Chinese airline, took to the sky successfully for its premier revenue flight from Wuhan to Shenzhen, making East Star Airlines a new Airbus A319 operator on the Chinese Mainland.  Configured in a two-class layout, the aircraft provides spacious capacity for 128 passengers. East Star plans to put this A319 into service on its newly opened trunk routes connecting Wuhan, Shenzhen, Haikou and Guangzhou.


8. Evergreen Maine Corp. Mitsubishi Launches Ever Spring

Reviving the name of Evergreen's very first full containership, Chang Kuo-Cheng (K C Chang), Evergreen Group's Vice Group Chairman, launched the 7024 TEU Ever Spring in Kobe, Japan, on 17 May, She is due for delivery in August 2006 and is scheduled to enter service on the WAE pendulum service linking the West Coast of North America with Asia and Northern Europe.


9. Eimskip acquires majority stake in Innovate Holdings
(News/Logistics)

 Avion’s subsidiary company Eimskip, is pleased to announce the acquisition of 55% equity stake in Innovate Holdings, which specialises in storage and distribution of temperature controlled cargo. Eimskip formerly planned to acquire a 50% stake in Innovate Holdings: by acquiring a controlling interest of 55%, the company will be consolidated into the financial statements of Avion and Eimskip. The purchase price, which is undisclosed at the request of the vendor, will be financed by a combination of Eimskip equity and debt.

10. EU Pushes for Kazakh Gas Pipeline
(News/Global Trade)

Top officials from the European Union and the US are visiting Kazakhstan in an attempt to revive the idea of a gas pipeline bypassing Russia. Kazakhstan's energy minister told the EU's energy commissioner his country favoured the proposal for a pipeline across the Caspian Sea. A recent gas row between Russia and Ukraine raised EU fears it was becoming overly dependent on Russia for supply.


11. easyJet: Passengers, tax-payers and Sardinians lose out in PSO ruling
(News/Air)

easyJet has been informed by the regional administrative court of Lazio that the airline will not be allowed to operate flights from Milan to Olbia for the time being, despite the obvious abuse of the Public Service Obligation (PSO) status by the Italian Transport Ministry and by ENAC.

12. Estonia Plan to Terminate Rail Privatisation Agreement Sparks Row
(News/Railways)

Estonia and a rail company part owned by US companies locked horns in a row after the government unveiled plans to terminate an agreement that privatised Estonian Railways (Eesti Raudtee). The government said it will seek to end a privatisation agreement with Baltic Rail Services (BRS), which bought 66 pct of Estonian Railways in 2001. The deal saw BRS acquire rolling stock and all of Estonia's rail track. The state retains 34 pct of Estonian Railways.

13. European airlines and airports focus on common ground

For the first time in the history of their associations, a joint meeting of the AEA Presidents' Committee and members of the ACI EUROPE Executive Board took place on 27 April 2006. During this meeting, Europe’s two leading aviation associations chose to focus on their common interests and to explore those issues which could be pursued together. 

14. Eitzen Bulk has set up an office in Beijing

15. Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd and Wan Hai to launch new service linking India with China
(News/Sea)

Evergreen Marine Corp, Hapag-Lloyd Container Line and Wan Hai Lines are to launch a weekly service linking India with Hong Kong, Shekou and Kaohsiung at the end of April. This will be known as the CIX (China - India Express) service.
