The Turin stage of the road show in the 2nd Road Safety Campaign 'WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME ROAD: TIRispetto (a play on words meaning 'I respect you')' will see 6 heavy commercial vehicles visit major cities in Italy in an effort to increase awareness of safe road use, starting by repositioning the image of road transporters. In the Campaign road transporters themselves will be promoting respect and education as regards road use.
This initiative under the aegis of the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport is promoted by the Central Committee of the Road Transport Register and the Advisory Council on Road Transport and Logistics. Iveco is a partner in the project and has contributed to the itinerant Campaign with 3 heavy commercial vehicles.
Trade federations, central authorities and local government representatives, journalists and the general public participated in an intense programme of visits and events at the Iveco Polyfunctional Centre in Turin. An address by Campaign coordinator Rocco Giordano on 'The safety system: vehicle-driver-environment' was preceded by a brief welcome from Stefano Sterpone, Iveco Senior Vice President Sales & Marketing, who emphasised that Iveco is fully aware that road safety also depends on adequate communication. As Sterpone mentioned it was in this spirit, "Iveco recognised that the itinerant TIRispetto Campaign was an opportunity to communicate technologies for safety and not just a means to give the brand further visibility." Addresses by partners in the Campaign (Iveco, DaimlerChrysler, ANAS, AISCAT) and participating trade associations (ANITA, FITA-CNA, Confartigianato Trasporti, ANCST, Conftrasporto) were followed by a visit to the Iveco Customer Support Center, the location of the company's main competencies in the fields of diagnostics, technical training, workshop procedures, technical documentation, remote telediagnosis systems and Europe-wide non-stop assistance. The day ended with a visit to the NEF (New Engine Family) plant where Iveco – world leader in power systems – produces engines designed to anticipate future regulations in the area of gaseous and acoustic emissions by developing cutting-edge engine technologies.
