Sovcomflot and Admiralty Shipyards Co-operation Print

 Signing of Shipbuilding Contracts. A solemn ceremony of signing shipbuilding contracts between Sovcomflot Group and Admiralty Shipyards took place in St.Petersburg on 17 May 2006. Thus, the biggest order in the history of Russian civil shipbuilding was sealed.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry and Energy of the Russian Federation Victor Khristenko, the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Sergey Aristov,  the Governor of St.Petersburg Valentina Matviyenko, the Director General of  ZAO “Sevmorneftegaz” Yuriy Komarov, the Director General of FSUE “Admiralty Shipyards” Vladimir Aleksandrov and the President of  JSC “Sovcomflot” Sergey Frank.

The contracts provide for the construction of

- two unique Arctic shuttle tankers (Hulls Nos.02750, 02751) designed to ship oil from Prirazlomnoye offshore field (ZAO “Sevmorneftegaz” is the operator of the Project) starting from 2008. The vessels of enhanced ice class and of 70,000 dwt each will fly the flag of the Russian Federation.  The tankers will be built in compliance with the Rules of dual classification under the Register of Shipping of Russia and Lloyd’s Register  and will be assigned LU 6 ice class (1A Super in accordance with international classification). The vessels will use a DAT (Double Action Tanker) conception and operate stern ahead with very good ice breaking capability and operate bow ahead in open water condition. The tankers will be equipped with two Azipod Propulsion systems (360° rotatable azimuth thruster), a dynamic positioning system, a helipad and an Arctic bow loading system. The tankers are able to operate in winter in 1.2 m thick ice without the need for an escort from an icebreaker. The LOA of the tankers will be 257 metres, the molded breadth 34 metres and the draught of about 14 metres. A diesel-electric propulsion installation, comprising four main engines, will deliver the total propulsion power - 17 MW;

- three product carriers (Hulls Nos.02746, 02747, 02748) of  47,000 dwt each continuing the series of six vessels ordered earlier by Sovcomflot from Admiralty Shipyards. Four tankers of the series, i.e. Troitsky Bridge, Tuchkov Bridge, Tower Bridge and Torgovy Bridge, are successfully operating already. The fifth vessel – Teatralny Bridge – was delivered and accepted by the Owner on 17 May 2006, and the delivery of the sixth product carrier – Tavrichesky Bridge – is scheduled for October 2006.

FSUE “Admiralty Shipyards” is the oldest yard of Russia established by Peter the Great on 5 November 1704. The yards of today are engaged in designing, building and in modernization of merchant marine vessels, as well as in construction and rebuilding of ships for the Navy. During three centuries more than 2.6 thousand ships were built at the Admiralty Shipyards.

ZAO “Sevmorneftegaz” is a subsidiary of  JSC “Gazprom” and the first operator dealing with  equipping and developing oil and gas offshore fields in the Arctic ocean and adjacent mainland areas. Prirazlomnoye oil field and Shtokman gas field  are the major offshore projects of the company.

JSC “Sovcomflot” is the biggest national shipping company which has gained unique experience in operating vessels in ice conditions, in the Baltic and the White Seas, in particular. At the end of 2005 the company accepted two ice-class Aframax tankers – Yuri Senkevich and Victor Konetsky – designed to carry oil within the Sakhalin-1 Project. This June mv Vladimir Tikhonov - the biggest ice-class tanker in Russian maritime history will be added to the company’s fleet. The deadweight of the tanker will be 162,000 tons. The company is planning to increase the share of traffic from ice-bound areas of Russia up to 30% of the total volume of transportation services rendered by Sovcomflot.

Sovcomflot and Admiralty Shipyards have established long-term and mutually beneficial relations. The total number of vessels ordered by the Sovcomflot Group from the yards by today amounted to 11 ships.
