Signing of Time Charters by Sovcomflot and Sevmorneftegaz |

Sovcomflot and Sevmorneftegaz have signed the long-term time-charter contracts within the framework of the Agreement on co-operation of October 2005, between Gazprom, Sovcomflot and Sevmorneftegaz on implementation of projects of oil transportation from Prirazlomnoye offshore field. The signing ceremony, attended by the Director General of Sevmorneftegaz Yuriy Komarov and the President of Sovcomflot Sergey Frank, took place at the Moscow office of the biggest Russian shipping company on 29 June 2006.
By signing contracts for the transportation of oil from Prirazlomnoye offshore field, Sovcomflot has enlarged the content of its industrial projects portfolio which also contains participation of the fleet in such projects as Sakhalin-1, Sakhalin-2, Varandey and Tangguh. The terms and conditions of the documents signed on 29 June provide for using two Arctic crude oil tankers of 70,000 dwt each. The time-charters will remain in force for up to 25 years. Transportation of oil from Prirazlomnoye offshore field to the floating storage and offloading system (FSO) in Murmansk region is scheduled to begin in 2008. It is planned that the maximum annual volume of oil shipments will amount to 6.5m tons. Earlier this year Sovcomflot and Admiralty Shipyards signed contracts for the construction of above mentioned Arctic tankers. These unique tankers will be built in accordance with the Rules of Dual Classification of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Lloyd’s Register, including LU6 (1A Super) ice class.
The tankers will be equipped with two Azipod Propulsion systems (360° rotatable azimuth thruster), a dynamic positioning system, a helipad and an Arctic bow loading system. The tankers are able to operate in winter in 1.2 m thick ice without the need for an escort from an icebreaker. The LOA of the tankers will be 257 metres, the molded breadth 34 metres and the draught of about 14 metres. A diesel-electric propulsion installation, comprising two main engines, will deliver the total propulsion power - 17 MW. The vessels will meet the rules, standards and requirements of international, national and regional conventions, including the requirements of the Russian flag.
