Located between Xiazhimen Island and Liuheng Island, Tiaozhoumen starts from south-east towards north-west and almost parallels with Xiazhimen Sailing Channel. Natural depth of Tiaozhoumen is quite ascendant since it can bear downstream 150 to 200-thousand-tonnage vessels. Entering from south east direction, vessels can pass through Dinghai, Shenjiamen, Laotangshan, Jintang and Liuheng Harbour Areas; in the west direction, vessels can pass through Ningbo Daxie Island, Ningbo and Zhenhai Harbour Areas and arrive at Hangzhou Bay.

Following with the quick development of Ningbo-zhoushan Port and relevant industries, pressure on Xiazhimen Channel is speedily increasing; therefore, it is necessary to construct a second channel----Tiaozhoumen Channel for large vessels. It is quite important to keep Ningbo Port¡¯s continuous development and build a safe sailing environment.
