Eurogate Invests Into Container Terminal Print
German container terminal operator Eurogate has been awarded the 40-year operating concession for the planned JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. The decision was announced in Hanover today by the prime minister of Lower Saxony, Christian Wulff.

The unsuccessful bidders included a consortium led by ports-to-logistics group Rhenus Logistics, allegedly backed by Taiwanese carrier Evergreen. Eurogate chief executive Emanuel Schiffer underlined the need for a third container port in the German Bight.

The operator will invest $420.3 mn in the superstructure of the 3.5 mn TEU terminal, which is expected to be completed around 2009/10. The federal states of Lower Saxony and Bremen will provide EUR 570 mn funding for the port infrastructure.
