AP Moeller-Maersk AS may make further acquisitions as oil giants move out of North Sea, AFX International Focus said. The daily said oil companies such as Exxon Mobil Corp, BP PLC and Royal Dutch Shell PLC are considering their future business in the British sector of the North Sea following the British government's plans to increase taxation on the oil and gas extracted there.
This development could open the way for further acquisitions by AP Moeller-Maersk unit Maersk Olje og Gas AS, which bought 10 production fields from Kerr-McGee Corp for 18 bln dkr during the summer. 'With the acquisition of Kerr-McGee's oil and gas activities in Britain we have realised a considerable business in the UK and a platform for further growth,' Maersk Olje og Gas deputy director Anders Wuertzen told the daily. 'It is always interesting to consider new business opportunities, but we have no concrete plans in the UK at the moment,' Wuertzen added. On the proposed increase in UK oil and gas taxes, Wuertzen said Maersk Olje og Gas 'agrees with the considerable concern expressed by the British operators' association, UKOOA'.
