In addition to securing a new 3-year contract to manage all of Britvic's Primary transport requirements, leading European supply chain specialist, Wincanton, has also secured a 3-year extension to its existing contract, managing Britvic's National Distribution Centre at Lutterworth, Leicestershire. The two contracts will see Wincanton introducing improved supply chain efficiencies for Britvic as well as maximising stock availability.
Signed until 2009, the contracts mean that Wincanton will operate all of Britvic's primary transport in the UK and Ireland, providing both inbound and outbound transport operations between Britvic's factories, primary and secondary warehouses, and Britvic's entire customer base, amounting to over 100,000 deliveries per annum. Running the entire fleet will allow Wincanton to respond quickly to customer requirements and offer a proactive service in managing peak demands. With the availability of Wincanton's wider network resource, the Wincanton team will look to introduce backhauling opportunities for Britvic, further enhancing cost savings and supply chain efficiencies. Dave Eslick, Logistics Director, Britvic, says. "Wincanton has worked tirelessly with Britvic to continuously adapt its service, reflecting changes in the marketplace. The decision to bring the complete management of the primary transport operation under Wincanton's control reflects our confidence in the service they provide and we anticipate that the core fleet will deliver cost savings through efficient planning. As a trusted partner, Wincanton is able to deliver an appropriate overall solution that supports our business. Steve Basnett, Business Unit Director, Manufacturing, Wincanton, said: "By having greater control of Britvic's supply chain, we will be able to improve not only the management of the logistics operation, but also the quality of service and the opportunity for cost savings. "We have been involved with the Britvic NDC since it opened in 1994, and have evolved our service to meet the changing needs of Britvic's operational and service requirements. In doing this we already manage all logistics systems, maintenance, security, stock control, administration, engineering, HR and financial functions. "Being awarded the management of the transport fleet is a logical step in allowing us to develop the relationship and service further." Source: Press Release
