UPS selected as logistics, express delivery sponsor of 2008 Olympics

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) announced on Wednesday that UPS has been selected as the official logistics and express delivery sponsor of the 2008 Games.

BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhuanet) -- The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) announced on Wednesday that UPS has been selected as the official logistics and express delivery sponsor of the 2008 Games.

UPS, the world's largest package delivery company and a leading global provider of specialized transportation and logistics services, will provide logistics consultation to the BOCOG and assist BOCOG to develop and execute the logistics operating plan for the 2008 Olympics.

UPS will also provide express delivery services to all venues nominated by BOCOG for the duration of the Games.

The sponsorship deal between UPS and BOCOG is also effective forthe 2008 Olympics and Paralympics, the Chinese Olympic Committee, as well as the Chinese teams to the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics and 2008 Olympics.

"The signing of the deal between UPS and BOCOG marks huge progress in BOCOG's selection of sponsors," said Wang Wei, Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General of BOCOG, at the signing ceremony.

"We believe the sponsorship from UPS from the Beijing 2008 Gameswill allow for even greater contributions to the Olympic Movement and to China's sports," he added.

"UPS is honored and excited about being part of delivering the world's greatest sporting event to China, and are committed to helping the organizing committee reach its vision of 'One World, One Dream'," said Ken Torok, President of UPS Asia Pacific.

The Marketing Plan of the 2008 Olympic Games includes partnership, sponsorship, suppliership and licensing program. Partnership, sponsorship and suppliership grant enterprises four-year exclusive marketing and promotion rights, while the licensing program authorize companies to produce and sell products with the official Olympic logo only after paying royalities to BOCOG.

BOCOG has signed nine partners so far, including Germany's automobile giant Volkswagen, Sinopec, China Mobile and Bank of China. It started to seek sponsors this March and is scheduled to launch its supplier-seeking campaign by the end of this year.

Headquartered in Atlanta, UPS began its operation in China in 1988. Enditem
