HPUK and LDH sign contract extension Print

Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited is extremely pleased to announce it has signed a new contract with LDH (La Doria) Limited extending the current contract until at least the end of February 2009, meaning an association of ten years between the two companies. LDH will be consolidating all their operations to the Port of Felixstowe; containers handled will rise from 5,200 this year, to a staggering 10,000 plus by 2008. As the vast majority of containers will be unloaded at Felixstowe, the venture incurs no ‘empty running costs’. HPUK’s ports are ideally placed to provide on-site value added services, which reduce cost and time elements in the supply chain.

LDH’s customers include Major Retailers TESCO, ASDA, Aldi and Waitrose amongst others, and they import a range of goods, from canned produce such as vegetables, fruit and fish, to dry foods such as chocolate and pasta.

Chris Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited said:

“This new contract is excellent news for HPUK. When we first signed the contract with LDH seven years ago, 98% of all warehousing space at the Port of Felixstowe was allocated to forest products. The initial contract was HPUK’s first foray into warehousing for retail cargo, which has now flourished into a very profitable business venture, and is testament to HPUK’s leading reputation into the fast-growing consumer services market”

HPUK ports offer ‘Port-centric’ business solutions, allowing a significant decrease in the supply chain costs of a conventional logistics pattern. Goods can be handled and stored on port, cutting out the need to transport the cargo to a separate storage area off port, and then transport it once again to its’ destination. Business analysts have identified considerable savings when the ‘Port-centric’ model is utilised.
