The Go-Ahead Group has recently been recognised for its environment and social performance in the latest Business in the Community’s ‘Corporate Responsibility Index’, published in The Sunday Times (7 May 2006). Out of the 131 countries participating in the Index, the Newcastle based public transport company was rated 54th overall – a marked improvement from its 69th placing in last year’s list.
The Go-Ahead Group was the second highest rated company in the transport sector, after second placed BAA, and was top of the public transport companies who entered. This position was based on the company’s continuous improvement in reducing polluting vehicle emissions throughout operations, as well as its performance in environment management and workplace management. This is the fourth year of Business in the Community’s ‘Corporate Responsibility Index’, published as the Companies That Count list in The Sunday Times. The ratings are based on companies’ commitment to openness and transparency in leadership, management and in the measurement of social and environmental performance. Within the integral Environmental Index, Go-Ahead was rated 42nd overall, the forth highest company in the transport sector. Julia Cleverdon, chief executive of Business in the Community added: “The Companies that Count listing recognises those who have done well and provides useful information to those who are working to improve. “Being included in the Index illustrates that the company has taken a systematic approach to dealing with its environmental and social impacts and, just as importantly, that it recognises the need to involve key stakeholders.” Source: Press Release
