Palletline plc, the UK’s longest established pallet distribution network, has further expanded its network in southern England with the appointment of Hertfordshire-based Bill Chippington Haulage Ltd. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Bill Chippington Haulage operates 87 vehicles and employs more than 100 staff at its depots in Valley Road in St Albans, Corby and Wolverhampton. It services a diverse range of sectors, in particular the print and consumer electronics industries, with major names such as JVC, Quebecor Printing and Kermi Radiators among its client base.
Bill Chippington Haulage will service the entire AL postcode area and all of the SG postcode area (except SG8) for Palletline from June 26th. The company’s commitment to Palletline has already been demonstrated by the appointment of an additional sales executive with specific responsibility for promoting that aspect of the business. Owner Bill Chippington explained: “Although pallets currently form a relatively small part of our business, we see huge growth potential for us in this sector and joining Palletline is key to exploiting that. It will allow us to offer a complete service to our customers, many of whom have existing requirements for the services of an overnight pallet network. “We investigated several networks but we wanted a share in the operation we were joining and that is exactly what Palletline are able to offer. “We anticipate daily input of in excess of 200 pallets within six to nine months of starting operations with Palletline.” Glyn Jones, Managing Director of Palletline plc, added: “Bill Chippington Haulage is a large, established operator with an excellent pedigree and we believe the company will rapidly become a major contributor to the network and help towards furthering the profitable growth that all our members are enjoying. We have now appointed three new members this calendar year and are currently in discussions with several more companies committed to our ethos of providing the sector’s best service at competitive prices.” Founded in 1992, Palletline was the UK’s first national network dedicated to pallet distribution. Operating from a main hub in Birmingham with regional hubs at Greenford, west London, and Preston, the company today employs some 150 staff, with major clients including blue chip organisations such as Parcelforce and J Sainsbury plc. As well as the UK, Palletline offers deliveries to mainland Europe, Scandinavia and the Irish Republic. Uniquely among pallet networks in the UK, Palletline is wholly owned by its membership. Currently Palletline has more than 60 member companies across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, each year covering some 15 million miles and making more than 8000 deliveries a day on behalf of the network. The company’s quality ethos is driven by ongoing investment in state of the art IT with sophisticated pallet scanning and a web-based track and trace system featuring on-line proof of delivery (POD) images to maximise service performance and transparency.
