FedEx Corp. announced it has completed the $780 million cash purchase of the LTL operations of Watkins Motor Lines and certain affiliates. A privately held company based in Lakeland, Fla., Watkins Motor Lines is a leading provider of long-haul LTL services with more than $1 billion in annual revenue.

Around 1,000 new jobs to be created

DHL Logistics has won a 10-year deal totaling GBP 1.6 billion /Euro 2.3 billion in revenue to manage GBP 22 billion/Euro 32 billion total spend with the UK Government's Department of Health. DHL will target over GBP 1 billion/Euro 1.4 billion savings over the contract period back to the English National Health Service (NHS). Klaus Zumwinkel, CEO and Chairman of Deutsche Post World Net, said the contract marked the significant success of the Group's strategy: "After the take-over of Exel and given DHL's extensive expertise in the health sector, we were able to make our customer a truly convincing offer. We now reap the benefits of both our internationalization strategy and our broad product range."

The Boeing Company confirmed a previously unidentified Air Sahara order for 10 Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes. Air Sahara placed the order in the first quarter of 2006 and was listed in the unidentified category on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries web site. Valued at more than $700 million at list prices, deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid 2009.

NYK opens Scandinavian Distribution Centre Print

NYK Logistics (Scandinavia) has just moved to a new centrally located purpose built 27,000m² Scandinavian Distribution Centre (SDC) in Gothenburg.
This new warehouse brings together NYK's logistics activities in one 260,000m³ facility which incorporates high bay racks as well as narrow and broad aisles. The large mezzanine floor is ideal for pick and pack activities. In addition, the site benefits from 24 hour class 2 security, including electric fencing.

FedEx Express, a unit of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), and the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l. (ALPA), the collective bargaining representative for FedEx Express pilots, jointly announced that they reached a tentative agreement (TA) on a new labor contract on Saturday evening. DHL Breaks Ground on New Chicago Area Service Centre Print

DHL,  announced it has broken ground on a new, modernized service center operation just two blocks south of O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL. DHL will invest $7 million in the new 78,960-sq.-ft facility, which will serve DHL's local pickup, delivery and sorting operations. The new DHL Chicago service center is expected to be operational by early 2007.
